A Kenzan is a heavy metal plate with pins to hold flowers in place. Widely used in Ikebana, the weight of the metal base and brass spikes hold plants in a vertical position without falling over. You place the Kenzan in a bowl or vase to act as a foundation for the floral arrangement. Other names for Kenzan(translated as sword mountain) are 'flower frog', 'stay put' or a 'pin holder mat'.
